Privacy Policy
Last Updated: 11th March 2026
Welcome to DJ AUSTRALIA ("we," "our," or "us", the "Publisher"). We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit our website www.djaustralia.com.au (the "Website").
This Privacy Policy is subject to the laws of Queensland, Australia, including the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), where applicable.
By accessing or using our Website, you consent to the data practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not access the Website.
QUICK SUMMARY (AT A GLANCE)
We know legal documents can be long. Here is a quick, plain-English breakdown of how we handle your data:
We are a Directory: We provide the digital space for independent music DJs to advertise. We do not employ the DJs or manage your actual bookings.
Booker Inquiries (Dual-Routing): When a Booker fills out a contact form on a DJ's page, that information is sent directly to the DJ so they can contact you. We also keep a secure copy to send you platform updates and offers (which you can opt out of at any time).
Payments & Bookings: If you pay for a booking or book a time via a calendar or payment link on a DJ's page, you are dealing directly with the DJ's third-party software (like Stripe or Calendly). We do not collect, see, or store your credit card details for bookings.
DJ Data: If you are a DJ, we collect the information necessary to build your promotional page, process your advertising fees, and maintain your account.
We Do Not Sell Your Data: We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.
Note: This summary is provided for your convenience. The complete, legally binding details regarding our data practices are outlined in the full Privacy Policy below.
1. Our Role and The Nature of Our Service
Our Website operates as an online directory and advertising platform. We act as a publisher providing exclusive, location-based digital advertising space for independent music DJs ("DJs" or "Advertisers") to showcase their services to prospective Bookers ("Bookers").
Crucial Distinction: DJs are independent third parties and are not our employees, partners, or agents. We provide the digital real estate for DJs to display their information, third-party booking/payment tools, and media. We do not facilitate, manage, or oversee the actual music bookings, nor do we manage the direct financial transactions or communications between Bookers and DJs.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information in different ways depending on how you interact with our Website, whether you are a DJ, a Booker, or an eCommerce customer.
2.1 Information Collected from DJs
When a DJ registers, pays a listing fee or subscription, joins a location Waitlist, purchases a Priority Backorder, or submits content and update requests for their promotional web page via secure forms or designated secure cloud folders, we may collect:
Personal and Business Information: Name, business name, email address, phone number, and physical location/service area.
Profile Content: Photographs, logos, biographies, social media links, website URLs, media files, and other details provided to be displayed publicly on the location web page.
Financial Information: Payment information required to process one-off listing fees, subscriptions, waitlist fees, backorder deposits, or renewals for the use of the advertising space. (Note: Payment processing is handled by our secure third-party payment processors; we do not store full credit card details on our servers).
2.2 Information Collected from Bookers and Website Visitors
DJ Contact Forms (Platform Data Capture): When a Booker submits an inquiry via a contact form on a DJ's promotional page, we securely capture and retain a copy of the submitted information (e.g., name, email, phone number, and message details). See Section 4.1 for more details on this Dual-Routing process.
eCommerce Store Purchases: If you purchase merchandise, accessories, or Website-specific gift cards from our independent eCommerce store, we collect your name, billing/shipping address, email address, and payment information to fulfil your order.
General Inquiries & Feedback: If you contact us directly via our Website’s primary Contact Page or feedback forms, we collect your name, email address, and the contents of your message.
Automatically Collected Information: We may automatically collect certain technical information when you visit the Website, such as your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URLs, and interaction with our pages (e.g., via cookies and analytics tools).
2.3 Sensitive Information
We do not intentionally collect "Sensitive Information" (as defined under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), which includes data regarding health conditions, racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, or criminal records). We strongly advise Bookers, Parents, and Visitors against submitting any sensitive personal data through our platform's open text forms or communications.
2.4 Anonymity and Pseudonymity
In accordance with Australian Privacy Principle 2, you have the option to interact with our Website anonymously or by using a pseudonym where it is lawful and practicable to do so (for example, when generally browsing the directory). However, providing accurate personal information (such as your real name and contact details) is a necessary requirement when submitting a contact inquiry to a DJ or making a purchase from our eCommerce store, as we cannot facilitate these specific services anonymously.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect directly for the following business purposes:
To operate, maintain, and manage the Website, DJ advertising spaces, and Waitlists.
To process one-off listing fees or subscriptions, and bill DJs for their exclusive use of location web pages.
To publicly display DJ profiles (as directed and paid for by the DJs) so Bookers can discover them.
To capture Booker inquiries for the purpose of adding users to our mailing lists to communicate platform news, updates, eCommerce offers, and promotional opportunities.
To process eCommerce transactions and deliver merchandise or platform-specific gift cards.
To respond to customer service requests, general inquiries, and feedback.
To improve our Website, marketing, and user experience.
To display relevant advertising and manage affiliate links.
3.1 Electronic Communications and Anti-Spam
All electronic direct marketing sent by the Website, our group of businesses, and subsidiaries will comply with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth). Our marketing communications will always clearly identify us as the sender and contain functional, straightforward "unsubscribe" facilities.
4. Booker Data, DJs, and Third-Party Embeds
This is an important section regarding how Booker data is handled when interacting with DJs.
4.1 Contact Forms on DJ Pages (Dual-Routing Process)
When a Booker fills out a contact form located on a specific DJ's promotional webpage, a Dual-Routing process occurs:
Direct Routing: The information and inquiry are emailed directly to the DJ to facilitate an immediate connection. While DJs are contractually obligated to handle your data in accordance with applicable privacy laws, we do not control, and assume no liability for, how the DJ subsequently stores, uses, or protects this information. Once the DJ receives your information, their own independent privacy practices apply.
Platform Data Capture: The Website (including our group of businesses and subsidiaries) simultaneously captures and retains a secure copy of this submitted data. By submitting your details on the Website, you acknowledge and agree that we may use this information to add you to our mailing lists and contact you directly with platform updates, promotional opportunities, and eCommerce offers. You may opt-out of these marketing communications at any time.
4.2 Embedded Third-Party Tools (Payments, Calendars, Media)
DJs have the option to request the embedding of third-party tools on their promotional pages. These may include, but are not limited to:
Payment Gateways: Stripe, PayPal, Square, or others.
Booking Calendars: Calendly, Google Workspace Appointments, or others.
Media Players: YouTube, Vimeo, SoundCloud, MixCloud.
We do not collect or process any data entered into these embedded tools. If you make a payment for a booking, book a time, or interact with media on a DJ's page, you are interacting directly with the DJ's chosen third-party platform. Your data is subject to the privacy policies of those third-party providers and the DJ. We take no percentage of any fees and do not monitor these external transactions.
4.3 Due Diligence
We do not vet, background-check, or verify the qualifications, identity, or safety credentials of the DJs listed. Bookers (or their parents/guardians) are strongly encouraged to perform their own due diligence before sharing personal information, making payments, or engaging with any DJ listed on the Website.
5. Disclosure of Your Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We may disclose your information only in the following situations:
Public Display: DJ profile information submitted for the purpose of the directory will be visible to the public.
Affiliated Businesses: We may share your information within our group of businesses and subsidiaries for administrative, operational, marketing, and eCommerce purposes.
Service Providers: We may share information with trusted third-party vendors who assist us in operating our Website, conducting our eCommerce business, or processing payments (e.g., hosting providers, fulfilment centres, IT services).
Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required to do so by law, or in response to a valid request by public authorities (e.g., a court or government agency in Queensland or Australia).
Business Transfers: If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, user information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
6. Cookies, Tracking, and Affiliate Links
Our Website uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to enhance user experience, analyse traffic, and personalise content.
Analytics & eCommerce: We use tools to understand how users navigate our site and to manage shopping carts in our eCommerce store.
Advertising and Affiliate Links: Our Website may contain advertisements and affiliate links. Clicking on these links may place a cookie on your browser to track referrals for commission purposes. We do not share personally identifiable information with these affiliate partners, but they may collect technical data as per their own privacy policies.
Third-Party Pixels and Tracking: We may utilize tracking pixels or tags provided by third-party platforms (such as Meta/Facebook Pixel or Google Ads tracking) to help us measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns and understand user interactions.
Single Sign-On (SSO): If we offer, and you choose to use, third-party authentication methods (e.g., "Log in with Google" or "Log in with Facebook"), we will collect the necessary authentication data provided by those platforms in accordance with their respective privacy policies.
6.1 "Do Not Track" Signals
Some web browsers incorporate a "Do Not Track" (DNT) feature. At this time, our Website does not respond to DNT signals or similar mechanisms, as there is no consistent industry standard for compliance. You can, however, set your browser to refuse all or some browser cookies, though this may affect the functionality of the Website.
7. Data Security
We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical security measures to protect your personal information from unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, please be aware that no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7.1 Data Breaches
In accordance with the Notifiable Data Breaches (NDB) scheme under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), we have procedures in place to assess and notify you, as well as the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), in the highly unlikely event of a data breach that is likely to result in serious harm.
8. Data Retention
We retain your personal information only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy:
DJ Data: Profile and billing data are retained for the duration of the active paid term, subscription, or waitlist period, plus a reasonable administrative period following cancellation or non-renewal to handle any outstanding billing, accounting, or legal matters. However, we may retain basic contact information (such as name and email address) beyond this period for ongoing marketing and re-engagement purposes, allowing us to notify former DJs of future platform opportunities, unless the DJ opts out or requests deletion.
Booker Data & General Inquiries: Retained for marketing and communication purposes until you opt-out or request deletion, or for as long as necessary to resolve an inquiry or fulfil an eCommerce order.
9. International Data Transfers
Our Website is operated in Australia. If you are accessing the Website or engaging with DJs from outside Australia, please be aware that your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in Australia. By using our Website, you consent to this transfer, realising that Australia may have data protection laws that differ from those in your jurisdiction.
10. Children's Privacy
Our Website is an advertising directory intended for general audiences, but we recognise that music bookings are frequently sought for children.
For Bookers: If you are a Booker under the age of 18, you may only use this Website, submit contact forms, and communicate with DJs with the direct involvement, supervision, and consent of a parent or legal guardian. Parents or legal guardians must initiate contact, fill out forms, or complete bookings with DJs on behalf of minors. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from unsupervised children under the age of 18.
For DJs: You must be at least 18 years of age to register and purchase advertising space on our Website.
11. Your Rights Regarding Your Information
Depending on your location, you may have rights under applicable privacy laws (such as the Australian Privacy Principles) to:
Request access to the personal information we hold about you.
Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.
Request the deletion of your personal information (subject to legal and contractual obligations).
Opt-out of marketing communications by using the "unsubscribe" link in our emails.
DJs: Can request updates or the removal of their listing information by contacting us or submitting a request via our designated channels.
Bookers: To manage the data captured by our platform (e.g., mailing lists), you may contact us. However, because data submitted via a DJ's contact form is also sent directly to the DJ, and data entered into booking/payment embeds is held by third-party providers, Bookers must contact the DJ directly to access, correct, or delete that specific information held off-platform.
12. Third-Party Links
Our Website contains links to external websites (including DJs' personal websites and social media). We are not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of these third-party sites. We encourage you to read the privacy policies of any website you visit.
13. Feedback and Dispute Resolution
While we provide a contact form for Users to share feedback regarding their experience with the Website or a DJ, this is for our internal review only. Providing feedback does not constitute a formal dispute resolution process. We do not arbitrate, mediate, or resolve disputes between Bookers and DJs. Any requests for refunds, cancellations, or dispute resolution must be handled directly with the DJ.
14. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We reserve the right to update or modify this Privacy Policy at any time. Any changes will be effective immediately upon posting the updated Privacy Policy on this page, with the "Last Updated" date revised accordingly. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
